( Menopause, periods and more )
Women’s Health
For a long time women were left out of research, so many everyday conditions still lack good answers. Studies in this area are trying to close that gap.

What studies here look at
Menopause studies often test treatments for hot flashes, night sweats, sleep and mood, comparing a new option with the ones already offered. Others follow bone and heart health through the years around menopause.
Endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome studies look at pain, cycles and hormones. Some are about pregnancy and fertility, and these always explain clearly how they protect anyone who is or may become pregnant.
Who studies often ask for
Every study writes its own requirements, so read this as a picture of who tends to be asked, not a checklist.
- Women going through perimenopause or menopause
- People with endometriosis, fibroids or very painful periods
- People living with polycystic ovary syndrome
- Women who are planning a pregnancy, for some studies

What a study might ask of you
Questionnaires
Regular questions about symptoms, sleep and mood, often answered at home.
Blood tests
Hormone levels checked at set points, sometimes timed to your cycle.
Scans
A pelvic ultrasound or a bone density scan in some studies.
A symptom log
Counting hot flashes or rating pain on a phone app between visits.
Questions worth asking
Take these to your first call with a research team, along with the questions in our guide to screening.
- Does the study need me to use a particular form of contraception?
- Will any visits be timed to my cycle, and how flexible is that?
- Can I keep using the hormone treatment I already take?
